1st Year: The Swimhaus
The Brief was to design a basic facility for the Swim-free group (an informal group that has been set up to create a network for people who love to swim in open water), to provide shelter for changing in and out of swim suits and wetsuits, and a communal space to gather for a “cuppa” after the swim. The site for the project was the south end of Aberdeen beach separated from the existing urban esplanade and close to the 19th century fishing village of Footdee.
My structure serves as a link between the road, path and sea, creating circulation between those and adding a landmark to the surrounding area. taking inspiration form the language of the Footdee seawall and the shelter it provides.
